Default Steering Column Removal

How would you guys rate the difficulty of swapping out the standard column in a 70 with a tilt/tele? I bought a compatible column but is it as easy as removing the two support bolts holding the column up, the wiring harness connections, and the two firewall bolts? I don't have a rag joint because I have a Steeroids rack.

Thanks for your feedback.

That's pretty much it. Not a difficult job if you are sure the new column will just drop in. I put a 79 column into a 72 and I had to trim the housing a couple of inches and remove/reinstall the wiring into the 72 connector so it would plug into the harness.

This paper has very complete instructions on dropping and removing the steering column.

I'm glad to hear that as I'm replacing the column on the 75 with a T/T from a 76 and also installing a Steeroids. I've heard that the bearing at the end of the column should be changed at the same time. Is this true?

Thanks for the link. Looks like it covers just about everything you need to know about steering.

I am always open to comments, suggestion, etc that would make the papers more understandable. As you can appreciate, I obviously haven't taken a steering column out of every model year of C3 Corvette. So particularly if you find things that are different it helps to update me so I can revise the paper(s).

Good luck,
Jim
