Recently purchased a rebuilt wiper motor for my 75 vette I am putting back together and I am alittle unsure of the install. I purchased the car with out a wiper motor so I am not sure if I have everything or not. right now I have the wiper motor mounted inside the car without any problems but after looking through the parts magazines I am not sure if I am supposed to have apump off of it or not for my washer fluid. The motor I have just has a small removable plastic cover over the gear. Also I have the three wire plug that connects to it and it hooks up just fine, but what is the copper strap hanging off the motor case for? Also my motor has a sticker on it saying somethign about to avoid grounding the motor or something in a certain wway or failure will occur. any help/ pictures!
Sounds like you have the right motor. There should be a ground terminal attached to one of the mounting bolts and a black wire plugs onto that. That wire goes into the harness and ends up at one of the bell housing bolts near the starter( many times this wire is mistakenly hooked to the batt terminal of the starter. On the 3 wire connector, the center wire (yellow) has power with the key on. The other two wires will get grounded by the wiper switch for the different speeds.
I see... I have a black connector that is not hooked to anything in that area but I had though it was for the hood ajar switch that is not installed yet. There is not way to connect it to the metal strap though its much wider. Would it be alright to attach a peice of wire to it and then just run it down with a connector to a common ground to test the motor if I the factory plug is not there?
Alright I see how its supposed to go now I am missing the peice that the connector slides on to I guess I will have to get crafty and see if I can bubba something together to make it work. Also I can not see from the picture but do you have another type of ground strap that comes off of one of the bolts where the motor attaches to the firewall?
I am also getting confussed the intructions that came with wiper motor keep talking about the washer fluid pump being attached to the wiper motor. I thought the pump was in the bottom of the resivor tank?
Also the wiper motor has a sticker stating not to pinch the wires with wiper motor cover or a short will occur does that just mean the two wires coming from the terminal part to the acutal motor part itself.
I am sorry for asking so many questions I am just trying to learn and corvettes can be tricky to replace parts on for which you have never seen before..
That wiper motor will fit many different models. Some have the washer pump attached to the wiper motor but not the 75's. That ground strap you are referring to is for a car with a steel body so the motor will be grounded when it is mounted, ours needs the ground wire as in the picture.
Alright thank you for the help. Any idea if you can order that little bracket if not I will just have to get craft and make something out of a small piece of steel. Also can I just remove the other groud strap for a steel bodied car and place in a normal bushing inplace of it.
