The paint is chipping on the hood of my car. The person who owned it before me musta liked Mako, because there are about 5-10 coats of crappy Mako paint jobs laying on the car. Original color was white...which is what is showing through on the hood, when the paint chips away. It's not an issue...I have an L88 style hood I am going to put on at some point.
It's also white, though. Rest of my car is still black, and paint is fine. I am not going to be able to afford to paint my car for years. I mean, years. So...I don't really want to drive around with a hood that is white, and a car that is black. I also don't want to drive around with a hood that is primer gray.
So, what about just buying some spray paint that maches my car fairly well, and paint the hood that way? As a temp solution for to the next 5-10 years or so, till I am ready to paint her?

a good friend of mine had a black 79 for twenty years and every spring he would sand and paint various chips, cracks etc. and even in large areas... with a spray can........car looked great!!....
I suppose you could do it with rattle cans. The trick is put them in the sink with TAP HOT WATER to build up the pressure and then get enough paint on the hood to be able to color sand with 2000 sand paper to get a finish you can buff and polish. Good luck with your project.
I'd try to match it and have the hood painted or paint flat black.
Black is not just plain black, there are probably as many shades of black as any other color. Matching the color or flat black would look better than just any old black.
if the rest of the mako job is fine as you said, just get the hood painted at mako for cheap. untill i see in person a good looking quality paint job that was done with rattle cans I refuse to believe that anything acceptable can come from it.
If you can contact the PO and find which Macco did the work...then determine which paint they used...just re-shoot the hood. [After filling holes, pits, etc. and sanding it smooth.] That shouldn't cost much and would be the best way to get a decent match.
