Stuck key

Please don't flame. I searched for "key" "key stuck" and "ignition key stuck". No luck for my problem via search so I'm respectfully asking for help.

My 69 BB 4 speed all of a sudden has decided it doesn't want to give my ignition key back. The key almost rotates back to where it releases but something is stopping its rotation and thus the key is locked in there.

Any advice?

Going up and down through the gears my clutch pedal is triggering the high beam switch off and on when I depress it. I have some new floor mats and I think that might be the reason but I'm not really pumped about cutting them or going with out mats. Anyone had this issue?

Be very careful with a mat that is that far up that it is doing this. They sometimes will get caught under the gas pedal. I never had a car that did this until I got my vette. The first time it happened I paniced and hit the brakes. My car is only a 350/300 and when I hit the brakes all it did was locked up the front wheels and kept accelerating. Now everytime I get in I always make sure to pull the mat back.

Take a look at this. I am quite sure that the Steering Column/Transmission Shift Interlock is your problem. The cable is kinked or disengaged.
