help on 1968 l89 numbers
I AM NEW TO THE FORUM AND JUST BOUGHT A 68 L89 THAT WAS BUILT DEC 2, 1967. CURRENTLY HAS A CE BLOCK DATED LATE 69 AND HAS NO DOCUMENTATION TO PROVE IT BEING AN L89. WHAT WOULD THE CORRECT NUMBERS BE ON THE ORIGINAL ENGINE IF IT WERE AN L89. I believe the casting should be a 321 but what about the number? (3963512....IU)?
thanks danny
3963512 is a '69 427 2 or 4 bolt mains.
Here's a link I use. http://www.mortec.com/bbc.htm
IU is 427 L89 435 HP L71 engine with aluminum heads and 4 speed.

PS Both of you guys should fill out your profiles so we can know a little about you and your cars.
L-89..... NICE.
Since a CE block is a CE block, I think you need to check and hope that the original heads (number and date) went on the new block. That would be a very good thing!

Alan
