Check Engine Light

Its pre- obd1. I have tried unhooking the battery and that doesnt work.
The car runs great just want to turn off the light.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Jerry
You need to run the built in diagnostic to figure out what is upsetting your computer. Once you post the code(s) we can help fix the problem.
To run the diagnostic, you'll have to jump the ALDL connector which is located under the ashtray. If you look closely at the plug, two of the end terminals have a smaller divider between them. These are the two that you'll need to connect. I like to use a staple, but anything metal will do.
With the engine off and the ignition in the run position, jump the terminals (A and B if I recall correctly). You should hear some clicking noises from the carb solenoid (this is good) The "check engine" light will begin flashing. All you need t do is count the flashes.
It should start with a series of one flash followed by two (again if I remember correctly) with a short pause between them. This is normal.
You should then write down any two digit codes and we'll go from there.
