Im looking at a 68 corvette that has had a 70-72 rear clip put on it. What goes into installing a rear clip? Doesnt the frame have to be cut and welded back? What should I look for. Any help will be appreciated.
The differences in a 68 and a 72 are:
1-flares. The later ones are better because they don't throw (as many) stones on your rear quarter panels.
2-68 has backup lights in the lower valence. You also need different taillight sockets and different lenses for the inner 2.
3-exhaust cutouts are round instead of rectangular.
4-lower valence is 1-year-only and has backup lights which are probably pricey.
To me, if the change has been done, I'd stay with what you have. The flares are a definite improvement, the exhaust tips are a question of taste.
To answer your question, the clip is bonded on. You do not cut any frame to change it.
How are they conected to the front clip? Where are they connected, and dont you have to cut through the rear cowl-ttop area? Im sorry- I meant rear cowl instead of the frame.
I'd bet it just has had the rear quarters flared and maybe the rear valence has the backup lights added... get some pics of it and look at what Markdtn said... he is right on the money...
