No it will not make your car run any better, I installed a Petronix kit in 2003 and it still works fine. The downside is that if it fails you will need a tow home while you wait for a new one. AC Delco points and condenser will work just fine. PG.
I run Pertronix in my 68 L36 Roadster (with MSD 6A) and in my 65 442 (very original car). I think they are great. Yes, they can fail, but so can just about anything else on a car. Will your car run better? If your current setup is worn, then probably. That's my 2 cents...
Converted my '71 some years ago to Pertronix. You should get a more consistent spark and you never have to mess with points and condensors- set the timing and forget about it.
I have a 69 BB with points & condenser. Would it make my car run any better to install (Pertronix Ignitor Electronic Ignition Conversion Kit)???
Any experiance with this conversion?
This kit simply substitutes an electronic 'switch' for the points which are a mechanical switch. There are no inherent performance benefits in doing this.
Actually, I converted the Pertronix system back to points after I bought this car. As mentioned, the Pertronix is fine..and requires no maintenance...until it starts doing "funny stuff". Then, you are just plain outta luck! You can easily clean/adjust/change points...and they give you good warning that they are not "up to snuff". Points usually work fine at lower RPM, but will start missing out at higher revs. Then it's time to service them. (But they don't leave you stranded!)
