Default Corvette Bumper Conversion

Okay, so I've been searching around the forum and the net, I've not seen anything done along these lines, so I'm looking for you folks with greater C3 experience to chime in:

Has anyone ever taken a rubberbumper C3 and refitted it with 68-72 fiberglass & bumpers?

I'm not much of a shop noob - I'm confident I can fab up new mount points etc once I actually get my eyes and hands in there - so I know anything is possible - but if anyone's done this mod I'd love to hear about it.

My last vette was a C4 (an '85 Z51 - sold a while back) - I *am* new to C3s.

Thanks guys & gals.

D

PS: Sorry if it's in the wrong forum- I reposted in "General" just in case...

You can post it here, it it is in the wrong section, the mods will correct. Yes It can be done but is frowned upon by members especially some of the chromies. It will require some work. The easiest route is getting a '73. Forum member Patience is undergoing this conversion at this time. Later model years will require you to find/fab the rear crossmember for the rear bumper, mounting brackets, and for the glass you will have to rework the areas to add the raised areas where the bumper wraps around the fenders in order to mount the bumpers. In short, a lot of work. I have seen several pics of such conversion. Someone posted a red 74 with a chrome bumpers on it. I also saw a pic of a 78 also. If you register with VetteMod.com, click on c3 projects and look for the thread 78 chrome bumper conversion. My user name is leapingcat. I have a thread requesting pics of these conversions. You can see pics there.

Hi David,
Unless you want a 'custom' I'd think you'd be better off buying a chrome bumper car. Cars with mismatched front and rear clips are valuable to very few people so your money and work wouldn't be very well spent. Sorry.
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan- I know what you mean- like the sugarscoop w/ '80-'82 front and rear end looks odd to me- but to each their own, right? Thanks for your input.
