Default Idle keeps going up

Getting the bugs out of my new 427 small block. Having trouble keeping the idle where I want it. Just noticed it keeps going UP only. Wondering if it's due to the engine slowly getting broken in, therefore less friction, and so the idle keeps going up with the same amount of idle fuel?

Sounds like my Holley carb! Hope yours isn't a Holley.

No, it's an Edelbrock 850 Performer RPM Q-jet.

I've heard of this problem before with Edelbrock carbs. It could be that the return spring is too weak to return the linkage to the idle postition. Can you move the linkage to the idle position manually to make it idle where it should ? I would give their tech line a call (877-888-7504), they are usually pretty helpful with diagnosing a problem.

I may give them a call if I can't figure this out. The carb is relatively new and worked OK on the old 350 I tore down to build the 427- It did sit all winter off the car. Seems to be on the idle position when I check it.

Also check to see if you're getting a vacuum leak somewhere such as hoses or the loose carb bolts.
