What sort of paint should you use to freshen up the valve covers? Can you use regular automotive spray paint in a can, or does it need to be heat resistant engine paint?
.......Mike.......
High temp engine paint from auto zone works ok. I would like to try powder coating some stuff, get my 220 ran to my garage I will be lookin for a oven.
Not to hijack the thread, but sevnt6, do you have another shot of the inside of your engine compartment. I had planned on dressing the compartment on my '81 up , but that got put on hold. Looking at starting up with that project within the next couple of weeks and liked the way yours looks. Especially with the way you have managed to hide most all of your wires.

That's a REALLY pretty big block there with the exception of that little clear glass fire starter spliced into the fuel line....please don't put it into yout Vette like that!

Thanks bailey228545.... You have a good eye. Things I've hid or removed: Headlight door vaccum lines under the M/C. I took all 10 feet of washer hose out along with the bottle. Hid my wipers under the cowl cover since I don't do rain. Ran all of the wires that go all over the top of the A/C box into the firewall & ran 'em back out over the blower motor. No stickers. I even molded the firewall smooth. I'd also never do all of this work again............
You hope I don’t mind the pics???? Are you crazy??? Some beauties there SEVNT6! I have a related question about the valve covers: What sort of gaskets do you guys use? My covers are not perfect and they leak a little. They are warped, I guess. Will a cork gasket help to solve my problem or is there some other material which will help to solve my problem?
Thanks guys.
Thanks micmak..... I've always used cork. The main thing is to not overtighten. And even then with time they will leak again.....
Isn't there something that will last?? I used cork a couple of seasons ago and they worked fine for a while, but gradually the leak returned. It's as if the gasket degrades and eventually leaks. I use a valve cover bolt reinforcement set too, but it really didn't do much to prevent the problem from returning. Is there some sort of silicone-based gasket that might last longer?
BTW, when I say "a couple of seasons", it's worth rembering that I only drive about 1,000 miles each season!! So the cork gaskets are not very satisfactory at all!

There are rubber ones out there but I've never tried them. One thing I know: My L-82 covers don't leak near as bad as my steel ones did. They've been on for a few years now & are just starting to leak a little at the back. I found mine at a swap meet for $100 & then had 'em chromed.....
