Default Differential cleaning question

This is probably a stupid question but do I have to use a special type of sand than I used to blast the frame for the differential and steering box? Also what was the original color of the differential and steering box? I can't decide if I want to go the original rout or make minor changes like painting the steering box, haft shafts, and differential differently. Does anyone have some paint scheme for these parts?
Thanks

Nothing special on blasting it. The original were just natural. Most of mine is black with some silver in it.

If you want a natural finish, you can buy a gallon of Evapo-Rust from Harbor Freight for $20. This stuff works amazingly well. Just let it sit for a few days in the liquid. A cheaper alternative would be to buy a gallon of molasses from a feed store ($10) and mix in 10 gallons water, let the case sit for 2 weeks and it will be rust free. Make sure to cover the container because it reeks after a few weeks.

I didn't have any 'theme' in mind when I started painting drivetrain parts. I happened to have silver and black paint so those became the primary colors.
