Default Light up the gauges

Was wondering if anyone has used the brighter 194 bulbs in place of the 168 bulbs in the speedo and gauge area to give more light. Mine are real dim. When I bought the car they didn't work at all due to a defective light switch which has been replaced but now they are just dim. Think that would cause any problems?

Can't answer your questionabout the bulbs, but when I restored my gauge cluster I painted the metal housing white. My housing was painted a lite blue color, so I decided to paint it white for better reflection from the bulbs. It helped quite a bit. Just a suggestion.

Regards,

Jim

Hey I have the same problem with my 79 vette... SO I bought these brite white blue halogen lights for the clusters, you know the ones that the ninjas put in those rice burners you see on the road.... and I will tell ya tonight how they look.... They should brighten things up a lot! they were about 1.45 a piece, and I wanted the blue look to match my CD player..... Keep your fingers crossed and I will let you know when it gets dark.... I have a feeling its going to ROCK! Later Bud..

I purchased them at AUTOZONE in austin Tx. just look up the size, i forget the model number...... they are a very small bulb... u will find them in clear. green and orange, and then all that ninja stuff that they put on hondas and mistuPISApoopieIS have those brite ninja rice burner lites....... u may have to shop a few auto stores, pep biys, hi-low, and advanced auto...... but they are everywhere!!! I hope this helps bud... I will get the size model later... but just call and any auto store will know... there is a cluster of lights, I think 8 or so back there so its damn cheap to replace!

Thanx. Let me know how it turns out. I've got my whole interior out right now including the dash and I should be reinstalling everything this weekend so I'll be waiting to see how they turned out.

Be careful if those halogen bulbs are anything like halogen bulbs fo house lamps, spotlights and even headlights, they burn extremely hot and may wind up damaging your entire instrument cluster and speedo. Probably would cost quite a bit to replace all that. Let the riceburners keep their siily crap. As for the 194 bulbs, they should work just fine and indeed give you more light without burning your car up. :mad :mad :mad

What was the size and model #. Post when you get a chance and let us know how they look. Hell my car is purple. Wonder how purple lights would look now that you mentioned the colors. :D :D :D
