Default Safety question

I've read a few post on how to do this, but my question is pretaining to safety.

I need to get under my 79 and work on the shifter linkage. I know many people have done it with the 4 jack stands, I've read a few other ways, but I'd like some of y'alls opinion of how to do this where I can feel safe under the vehicle.

Thanks, Jordan

Default My opinion is I like to double jack or use 8 jack stands.

IMHO, I like to use double jack stands or use 8 instead of 4. My view is jack stands are cheap. I will also put another jack under the front too depending on what I am doing. Also check the jack stands to make sure they are actually bearing a load. Sometimes due to slightly unlevel surface or frame (uneven?), you discover one of the 4 corners is not carrying any weight and could easily slide out

if i dont need the entire car up in the air, which you dont to work on the shifter, i prefer ramps and then a block behind the wheel thats still on the ground.
