Default Check out these Plugs

From a friends 71 SB Coupe. I have other forum posts about this car, regarding the Pertonix ignition and some Q-Jet carb questions. Motor has 500 miles, been running really bad. Too many hands in this 9 year total restoration. Motor was gone through about 5 years ago, engine was run to break in the cam, then it has been sitting, waiting for the car to be done.
I started out checking the carb, carb gasket, vacuum leaks, ckd valve lash, timing, pulled distributor to re-shim end play and replace vacuum advance, checked the plug wires and so on. Looks like there are several problems here, oil fouled plugs, bad graphite Delco plug wires, possible some carb issues. Motor is mostly stock .030 over 350, 9.6:1 CR, stock heads with Z-28 springs and L-82 cam, AC Rapid Fires with cusotm duct tape tags

Can put new, hotter plugs, new wires and see what happens.

With that amount of oil, I'd do a leakdown test and see if the rings are funky. If that's a no-show, then the valve guides. Only 2 places to get oil like that, and I'd put money on valve guides since the engine was rebuilt.

But too, if you found some bad wires, those weren't firing and could have oil fouled becasue of that.

After thinking and looking again, I'm not sure I wouldn't just pull the heads. I'm thinking that they may have stacked some oil rings.

With only 500 miles and that result, it's only going to get worse. I would pull that engine, and see what they f...d up.

I would look at the valve seals first. The 4 wet plugs are the suspect and principal valves to check. Two basic seals, umbrella and the 'O' ring. The O ring seals may not be in the proper position on the valve. At 500 miles there should not be a major problem ...
