Default Seat Belt

I have a 69 red on red. I'm trying to dye my lap belts. I was told the SEM products were the best. Does anyone know what color I would buy that matches my red belts. I can't seem to find a match. Thanks

Default Never thought of dying

I had mine restored, they rechromed the buckles and replaced the webbing in the bright blue color. Not cheap but looks great, pm me if you need info on this option.

If your interior color is 'original', just ask the auto paint supply store to mix up some to your "trim code" number. That will be an exact match to the [original] interior color. I recommend that you buy a gas cannister/bottle kit if you don't have spray equipment. One of those kits will only set you back $15 or so and you can use it for touching up other interior pieces once you are done with the belts. To spray the webbing, just reel the belts all the way out of the retractors and use a squeeze-clamp to hold it out. Mask off the buckles and spray away. A couple of light coats [on both sides] should do the job just fine. Don't worry about the off-color end of the belt; it never gets rolled all of the way out anyway. Once the belt is dry [20 minutes with SEM vinyl dyes], flex it to make sure the color has penetrated enough to hide all of the old belt color. If so, you're good to go. {Much less expensive than buying "new" belts...and they're still originals!}

I sent mine into "seatbelt solutions."
Talk to Jeff. They replaced the GM buckles and matching webbing. They also put in new retractors. It costs bout 450 bucks. THey look great

Dye and sprayer cost about $50. If the webbing isn't 'ratty', the seat belts will look like new....and still original.

I also have a red '69 T-top with red interior, most of it not original. I also just had my retractors re-springed by SSnake-Oyl in Texas. I scrubbed the belts myself and then sprayed red dye and they came out beautiful. I'm also told that the Rit dye-removal products in the grocery store work well to use prior to re-dying. MY problem is I can't find the mounting holes for the belt guides that go on the seats, or where the retractor originally mounted -- it's been all recarpeted and i'm reluctant to rip it all out!

SierraTony.... Find a large sewing needle and start poking it through the carpeting in the area of the attachment nut. When it goes through the carpet and doesn't hit floorpan, there must be a hole there for something. Maybe someone else on the Forum can show you where to look (on the same year car).
