Default Improving My L48

I have a 77 with the L48. I don't want to get crazy and I don't have a lot of money to spend. What I want to do is improve the performance, but control my budget. I have about $1500 to work with. It already has a true dual exhaust but it has dual converters as well. I am thinking of replacing the heads and have read the other threads discussing the Procomp route, so I don't want to go there. I have been looking at Summit Racing and the have a reasonable price on a set of their performance cast iron heads which they say are cast the same as "double hump" heads or thier aluminum heads which are not priced to badly either. I have a edelbrock performer cam that I am adding to the mix as well. I am not expecting a 400hp C6 killer, I just want improved performance from what I have. I really don't want to get to extreme as it is the original block, and it appears to have had a rebuild prior to my purchasing the car a year ago.

same 1103 C&L kit.
