Has anyone on here ever had the mount for the power steering cylinder break? I was doing an autocross event on saturday and had mine shatter.. its a 34 year old piece of cast iron though so I guess you kind of expect stuff like that.
I was able to get a replacement from a shop here... but its an equally old piece of cast iron that looks more weathered than the piece that snapped on my car.
Does anyone know of a part number I could use to find a new mount/flange? Anyone know if they have been manufactured in another material besides cast iron? That part kind of has me worried now.
Here is a pic of the part I am talking about. It snapped right after I pulled back into grid after a run:
I'm surprised that your frame bracket reinforcement broke also ... assuming you have the reinforcement instead of just 4 bolts w/ large washers inside the frame. Look for rust on the broken surfaces of the frame bracket casting. You probably know that if there is rust there, the bracket cracked before the failure, and could have occurred when the bracket was first installed.
Here's a pic of the same cast iron frame bracket that you have w/ the correct reinforcement brackets. This is an extra, so if you need it, PM me.
The old one had no rust on it.. Thats the strange part. When it broke, it looked like it broke one of the studs off of one of the two brackets. Three of the studs were still on the car holding small chunks of the mount, and the 4th stud was nowhere to be found.
Do you know anywhere you can pick up one of the reinforcement brackets? I was able to get a frame mount from a corvette shop the same day. I have it mounted using one of the brackets and 2 bolts at the moment so I could drive it home.
