So the wife said she smelled gas in the house last night...I said you're crazy. This morning I go out in the garage and sure enough, it smells like gas. I look under the vette and find a puddle of gas! To no surprise, it's a bad fuel line (old/cracked...yeah I know, I should have done this earlier). Question is, do I need to do something to stop the fuel flow so I can take the line off and put a new one on? I've only changed lines on newer cars where you just pull the fuse to the fuel pump and voila, no fuel spraying out when you remove the hose. Is there a fuse on my 71 vette or is it something different I need to do? Sorry for the newbie question, but I'm just that with these cars! Any quick help appreciated...the puddle's getting bigger!
Yes, you need to plug the hose when removed- a large bolt will do. No fuse.
You can try clamping- vise grips should work- have something to plug the hose also.

It happened to mine last year too. Mine parted back by the right rear trailing arm. I had to siphon all the gas out of the tank as I didnt have time to mess with it. Before I siphoned it, I put some needle nose vise grips on the rubber line where it comes off the tank. Hard to get to but I felt my way around and got it clamped to stop the drip. Right now your just dealing with a gravity induced leak.
Ok, that's what I was thinking and just started to do...so far I haven't found an object that fits. We just moved so there's boxes everywhere and I don't know where anything is. Oh well, at least I'm on the right road, thanks for the help.
