Default Barry Grant Thread for air Filter Rod

Guys,
I am struggling to find a threaded rod to fit my 750 Speed Demon for the air filter. I emailed them and got a reply that it was 5/16th 32 TPI, now 32TPI is a very fine thread and it looks nothing like that. I have tried all the non-metric threads at my disposal but still cannot find the right one. Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Graeme

Just standard 5/16 coarse thread. Should be 18 threads per inch. I just used a standard threaded 5/16 threaded rod available anywhere, at least here in the states.

What if you just got a tap and tapped the hole to fit some Metric threads and some rod you can find?

Or we can get Joe to bring one over next time he comes!

I have thought of that Jim, but stripping and cleaning the carb after made me hold off. I havent worked in Moscow for over a year so Joe may have difficulty finding me, unless he comes to Scotland of course.
I just need to find the correct thread, I tried 5/16th UNC, UNF, AF etc.
I was previously told it was 9/32UNC but no, emailed BG and they told me it was 5/16th 32TPI which made no sense. I will have another go with the thread guages again, but because its femail thread its easy to get it wrong. One more go before I go the metric route.

Thanks

Graeme

that my scottish friend requires a 5/16 stud kit. gordonM is spot on about the threads per inch and that any speed shop should sell it. dont go tapping anything. if your desperate do a mail order through BILLET SPECIALTIES or somewhere like that, they have them in stock.

Thanks guys,
I did try, when trying to size the thread, a 5/16th 18tpi tap, amongst others, but it caught after a turn or so. I only used finger tightness, but it was enough to throw me. (As did the email from BG saying it was 32tpi!!!) I can get 5/16th UNC rod here by special order so when it arrives I shall run my tap through to clean up the thread before I fit it. Crazy how sometimes you can get led off at a tangent

Thanks for all your help!

typical BG phone service saying that... lucky their carbs HAMMER !!!

be sure to hold up your tap against your piece of rod to make sure its a perfect match. taps always seem to grab like that. i think it must be why people say never use a tap to clean out head bolt holes when installing new heads.always use an old head bolt as a tap will remove some of the exhisting material even though its the correct one.
