Default Intake and carb fitment

I bought a new Edelbrock 2701 dual plane intake and 1406 carb. First i noticed that the dual snorkel air cleaner will not fit on the carb, the electric choke and fuel fitting hit the bottom of the air cleaner. I am going for the free Air cleaner deal Edelbrock has on right now when you buy a new carb.

What are you guys using for air cleaners with this set up? And does it fit under the stock 1980 hood.

I use play dough to check clearance. The Edel Air Cleaner is pretty low profile. You might use a shorter filter.

is the 2701 a performer or performer RPM? I was running a performer rpm manifold with a stock L88 style drop base with a 4 in element in my '73. The fit was tight, but no clearance issues. Being that the hoods on an '80 aren't as tall as a '73-'79, I think you would clear fine with a 3in element. If you think about it, it is the exact same set up as a '70-'72 LT1. The hood of a 80 and a 70 LT1 hood are approx the same height, the performer rpm is the same design but an improved version of the LT1 manifold. The only difference I see is the choice in carb. Edelbrock makes a banjo fitting if you want to run a rubber line and/or a pre-bent steel line to clear drop base air cleaners.

Grumpy, I have the very same setup on my 81. I fabbed a 1/4" thick ring to fit on top of the carb to space the dual snorkle air cleaner. Everything clears no fittment problems. I have seen carb spacers at auto supply but they are way too tall. By the way I used square stock for the spacer and bent it in a circle with the vise and a torch

The 2701 is a performer intake, it is a square bore too, so you can run a holley or an Edelbrock carb. I do have a 1/2 spacer ring from a previous setup. i will try that once i get the new motor back in the car.

I have a Perfomer RPM intake and LT-1 hood and the only air cleaner I can find that clears is the one in my photo (click on "my corvette photos).
