How to remove shift ****????
I am attempting to replace the shift/console plate on my '79 and am stumped as to how to remove the black shift **** (auto) so I can slide the plate off with the boot intact.
So far, I've removed the detent **** and spring, but the **** looks like it's pressed onto the shift lever, and won't budge.
What's the secret?

Thanks Paul,
That helps, because I tried to unscrew it, but it's really tight. Thought it might be pressed on. Will have to wrap it with a cloth and get out the old channel lock pliers.
