Mine leaks out of the input retainer area. Pulled it out and notice
there is no actual seal, only a gasket for the retainer housing.
So...is it normal for there to always be a seep out of the hole
in the housing since there is no seal like a top loader trans?
No its not normal operation, But, it is common for them to leak. They tend to leak where the counter shaft comes through the case. Especially the 65 and earlier, have a smaller shaft with tends to wear more. The shaft wears the case and the extra clearance will leak.
Old trick is to use rtv over the end, just before you install the trans, worked for me on the m20. The real fix is to have the trans shop put in a bushing in the case, no leaks on the m21, and yes i still did use the rtv trick

Just run a bead around the counter shaft opening and then bolt it up?
Interesting that you should post this - I got under rear end of car yesterday to do 'grease-up' (only 3 'spiders' had grease nipples! and mounted the wrong way around so I couldn't even grease them-up!) when I noticed oil staining under rear of car - bottom bolt on rear of gearbox casing was undone two turns and obviously leaking, other were not very tight - took 1/2 litre of oil to top-up - real pleased I saw that whether it won't leak or not is a different matter

I have a T-10, which was based on the Muncie design. Mine has a seal in the retainer that surrounds the input shaft. I can' imagine that it left the factory without one. Heck, mine was simply put on backwards by the P/O and it leaked. I couldn't imagine how much oil would flow out without one.
Call a good trans shop, like "The Gear Box" in Michigan. They'll help you out.
I also had to RTV the counter-shaft to keep it from leaking.
