Default Best conversion kit to electronic from points?

As far being able to go back to points - what would be best option for someone converting from points to electronic ignition?
It's not for me I've had some form of electronic ignition in my '68 since I bought it, but it's alway been the whole distributor.

The Electronic Ignition Conversion Kit that Lectric Limited sells seems very popular.

I have Pertronix. It's been in the car for 7 years and never had a problem.

Pertronix is good, have used before. Have a Crane unit in the car I have now. Works great, has a built in rev limiter BUT CRANE is gone!!

Hi

I have the Petronix as well since 4 Summers, no problems.
But it looks kind of flimsy. Glued on magnets to a plastic ring that isn't even straight when new.
If this thing gives up, I will install a HEI distributor that is waiting on my shelf for action.

My Mallory HyFire converts back to points simply by unplugging the 4-pin harness and installing a jumper plug that they provide. I also have a by-pass wire on the ballast resistor that has a plug to disable/enable the ballast resistor which is by-passed when using the Mallory.

Because the points become a simple switch and do not switch any real current, they last practically forever and don't need adjusting. The Mallory sets the dwell so point adjustment is not critical at all. At one point I had the points set so far off that the car would not even run in by-pass mode but ran fine on the Mallory. I did adjust them to the proper setting in case I do need to use the feature.

I've had to use the by-pass feature once when the shop burned out the Mallory electronic ignition box, but once is enough.

REwire for HEI, and tape off the OEM wires unused....

run a nice 12 ga Pink wire to the Bat+ terminal from your pink IGN wires under the dash, and change tach to a 75-77 tach....dump that mechanical/unreliable garbage where it belongs...

Over the years I've converted several distributors to use (real) HEI electronics (including my '69). I got a conversion kit to place a magnetic reluctance sensor in the stock distributor, and then I wired that up to a stock (inexpensive) HEI module that I mounted under the shielding. Looks stock, stone reliable, and cost about 50-60 bucks total. (Some assembly required.)

I've changed mine to a Breakerless SE, but I will probably change it to an HEI setup.

I'm still using the same Mallory Unilite kit since it was installed in 1996. It's the only optical type conv kit on the market.
