Default Slow Windows

The windows on my '75 are slow coming up and quick going down. They are quite slow in the second half of travel and usually can't push the window up the last inch. I have had them apart and have cleaned and greased the tracks and nylon wheels. Problem is identical on both windows.

I haven't yet bypassed the switches, as I was focused on the mechanical aspects. My research here seems to point to the springs. Neither are broken and both have tension in the full up position.

The gears look solid.

Do you guys think this is the motors or the springs? Is it hard to add tension to the spring or should I replace them?

Thanks for your advice and guidance.

Larry

That sure sounds like a spring problem. Since you say they are not broken, they must be installed on the regulators incorrectly, somehow. I don't think there is any way to "adjust" them.

Did you preload the tension on the springs when you cleaned the tracks? PG.

I did not. I was not aware this was required, but it now seems that this may be the problem. There is some tension, but I suspect over the decades that the spring loses enought tension to reduce effectiveness.

Can you give me any guidance on how to perform this? I have not seen this documented anywhere and couldn't find anything by searching?

Thanks

The tracks and roller were all cleaned with spirits and lubed with lithium. There is not much friction there. They also go down effortlessly.

Direct disagreement, I NEVER use ANY lube of any kind on the tracks themselves....totally naked steel and nylon rollers....just the center of the rollers/bearing get any lube at all....

all lube on the tracks does is dry out and collect dust....done them my way for some 40 years now, they go up/down like a guillotine...

The regulator has two sides, the gear side and the "other" side. There is a hole in the gear side that must line up with the hole in the "other" side. Collapse the regulator untill the two holes line up. Stick a 1/4 inch bolt thru the two holes. Now install the motor and remove the bolt. Now there is enough tension so the window will go all the way up and down. PG.
