It has been raining very hard in the Houston area for the past 2 weekends and in between raindrops I decided to oil up my built SB thats been sitting around for a while. I have been noticing some cats around my house and didn't think much about it. Walking back to where the motor was stored in the back of the storeage building I noticed daylight entering the room from between the fascia board and decking for the roof. The piece of flashing that was installed over the decking and fascia board was now pointing into the room. Right underneath the end of the flashing was my motor. At first this didn't bother me because I wrapped that engine with 5 plastic engine bags and duck tape to Make it watertight. What I didn't realize was the cats were using my engine to lay/sleep on because the plastic was torn to shreds on top of the block. Upon closer inspection I could see a large liquid presence in the plastic bags on the bottom of the motor. I got a 5 gallon bucket and screwdriver and poked a hole in those 5 bags and out came the oil I filled the crankcase with. After disposing of the 5 palstic bags that the motor was wrapped I knew the outcome was going to be bad. Sure enough when I took off the oil drain plug out came water. The pic is of the bottom end after a good wash with WD-40. The block looks like it is shot because of the amount of rust in the cylinder walls. I am hoping the roller cam is salavageable along with the pistons, crank and rods. I never fired the motor and it has probably been 4 months from the last time I spun the motor over. So it is now time for a couple of Dos Equis to help ease the pain. I know the kittys will be looking for a new place to live houstonvett
Nice looking dog DP9 looks like that would eliminate the cat problem. Trapped the kittys and took them down to the local 4H barn that youngsters use for their projects. Plenty of varments to keep the cats busy and it benefits the 4H youngsters also by keeping the barn free of mice. Now to dis-assamble the block and see what the cylinder walls look like. I have the Dos Equis sitting on ice in a cooler very close by just in case they are needed again houstonvett
