I am still trying to adjust the shifter linkage on my 75 BW ST10, I have been given the procedure and I think I understand it, however what kind of tool is needed to thread through the notch and line the shifter up? I fabricated a tool out of flat steel but it just seems to thick to go all the way through the shifter levers. I assume when you are feeding through the notch it has to go UNDER the actual shift lever as well? anyone have any ideas? I am also doing this from under the car with the shifter and bracket still bolted on, I am taking off the linkage rods at the tranny, does anyone know an easy way to do this. I have the directions and it seems easy but when its all together its not so easy.. LOL. Many thanks....
Not sure about your shifter, but Hurst and the stock shifter use a 1/4 rod. ( drill bit will work) It passes thru a notch in the outer shell of the shifter, then thru holes in all 3 levers, and into a notch in the inboard shell. That locks the shifter in the neutral position with the gate aligned. Assuming the trans is in neutral, adjust the 3 rods so they slip freely into their respective levers.

If your shifter is the same one as the one on a Muncie then the flat steel is correct but it needs to be bent down at an angle where you are holding onto it so that it clears the trans tunnel. Also, it needs to be inserted parallel to the ground not at an angle.
It is supposed to be very thin. Several of the forum vendors sell them.
If you have a set of flat gauges you can probably find one in the set that will suffice. It doesn't need to be strong it just needs to keep the levers in place while you adjust the length of the rods.

PS when I said flat gauges I meant feeler gauges.
