Default 1972 Engine block

I have a thread in the general section (71 Strip down) but I was looking at the engine and head numbers and I have a 1971 coupe that was originally a 350/270 hp car. The engine that came with the car has no vin # but the suffix code is V0803TRJ, and a casting number of 3970010, which I believe is a Flint, August 03, 1972 4 bolt main, with head numbers of 14022601 and 14022801 with code of B/07 and J/20 (14022601...1980-1986...267/305......1.84"/1.5" valves, 58cc chambers)and the same specs for the 14022801 head, just different dates. The car has a 4-speed, what can I do with this engine, the block seems to be a good block, and a Eldebrock Performer intake, but do I get new heads or rebuild these,(someone said these would make nice doorstops! LOL) I am looking for more perfomance, car has 3:36 gears.

V is for Flint MI not Tonawanda
0803 is August 3 assembly date, year unknown. Look at the block casting date to confirm

TJR is a light truck code, used three times:

TJR 1972 307 conv. cab, m/t 135hp 2 bolt C-20 & 30
TJR 1973 350 van & bus 155 4 C-30 & 3500
TJR 1977 350 conv.cab L LS9 165 4 C-10 & 1500

What would be a good set of heads for this block? #'s would help.

Those heads will make a good door stop. Do not rebuild them. On the heads what is your budget. You can spend anywhere from 600 to 2000+ for heads and what kind of power are you looking to make with your motor.

Before you plan further for TJR ... Suggest you also physically look & measure bores ... 350 or 307 ... steel or iron crank ... etc etc. It may've been rebuilt/reassembled with who knows what ... maybe sugar maybe shat.

I was looking at heads and other parts at Summitt Racing. They have some "World heads" that look good and this is on a recommendation from a friend who races, but as far as stud size diameter (3/8 or 7/16) and roller rocker ratio (1.5 or 1.6) and pushrods, its gets overwelming as far as the choices Any thoughts? I am looking for some horsepower gains, and I want to replace the heads in it now(as someone put it "doorstops") and this motor has an Eldebrock performer intake and carb on it now.

If it is a 307 start over. If it is a 350 4 bolt main, forged crank (truck motor) it is a great base. The heads you have are junk. Anything else will help power. Im an AFR guy.
