Looking for a good set of plug wires for my big block, 454 with headers and Merlin heads. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I currently have the stock GM distributor converted to Pertronix inside.
I second the taylor spiro pro 8mm. Just put them on mine, the old accels must have been going bad, noticed an improvement.
Word of advice: My accels where straight boots, I thought they where the only ones I could use but the 45 degree boots worked also. Definetly no 90 degree. Summit swore that 90's where what I needed, but that was wrong.
Tom,
I am using Taylor SST S/S braided plugs wires right now. They are an 8mm (original is 7mm) wire. At the distributor end of the wires there are grounding wires that need to find a good connection. There is a post on my LS5's distributor shielding bracket that I connected mine to. The part number for my '72 LS5 was (purchased about 1 1/2 years ago) 080603. The engine pic below isn't the best shot of the wires, but give you an idea of the look. You can also see tthat the boots are blue!
Accel also makes a S/S braided wire called Armor Shield. I did some research on this one as well. The part number for my Vette is 8003B.
Tom, I dont run a Vette, so braided didnt enter into the picture, but another vote for Taylor. I use their 135 boot 8mm Spiro-wire, in black, roll your own ( not hard with their hand tool and fitment is mint!) and the optional 180 distributor boots for that original "Medusa" look. Turn the wires so the "taylor" name isnt showing and they look very factory.
