Default power brake booster

In the process of doing a frame off resto I have got a bad case of "while Im at it itis". I have the dash, steering column, a/c box out working on the firewall and will be pulling the power booster also. How often do these go out and should I go ahead and replace it now, it looks like a job when everything is back in the car. It is over 30 years old and I wonder how much longer it will last.

Thanks,
Randy

That's a good question, I had the worst luck when my booster failed, two replacements were bad and the third one is still working 8 years later. I pulled the seat out and did it on my back. Not that hard to do but the last bolt is hard to get to. PG.

My original one went bad at the 30 year mark if that helps you any. Replacing it was a major PITA. Very difficult to get at two of the bolts and not much working room under the dash. Taking the seat out helped a little.

Getting the special clip that attaches the booster to the brake pedal back on was another wonderful experience. I'm sure the engineer that designed that went on to have a successful and rewarding career designing the Yugo.

IMO, put one that is worth the effort, a hydroboost set up and don't look back.....if you don't you will regret it, assuming you actually drive the car....

Because the Booster is such a Pain to replace when the car is all put togeather I'd put a new one in now. But I wouldn't just get one at the local Auto Parts Store. Booster Dewey would be a good place in Portland Oregon. Just pull Yours out and He will Rebuild and re Plate Yours and send it back. Thats all He dose for his bussness so on would think he knows what he is doing. He might have one to exchange as well. He offers diffrent Plateing Options as well including Chrome. You should be able to find him on Google. If your not interested in stock our Your putting in a Hot Cam in your engine the Hydra Boost that everybody raves about here might be the best option.
