Default 1978 Corvette

How-day all,
I am new to this forum and am not sure how to use it. I purchased a 1978 Corvette today wich will make it my first. I have been researching and watching values along with inspecting them for about three months. I have learned quite a bit in many respects both about the cars and the owners.
The car I have purchased has 57,000 showing and I beleive it may be true mileage. Although it is a re-paint in fairly good condition there are a few areas I have concerns with and am hopping that someone will take the time to give me some information.
I am certain that the rear wheel bearings need replacing and would appreciate any pointers on replacement.
There is a noticable oil leak, the sellers is pretty sure that some if not most of it is due to the dip stick tube not being secure in the stem attached to the block. I feel it is more likely coming from the main seal.
I am capable of doing most work myself and have access to a car lift.
Any input would be great from those who know their Vettes. Before I decide to pull the motor and do a tear down, is there other areas I can try prior to undertaking this task?

Thanks, Fenducci

Congratulations on getting your first Vette and welcome to the forum. Clean the motor and see if you can figure out just where the oil leak is coming from. Could be anything from valve cover gaskets to whatever. Enjoy you new ride for a few months and you'll find plenty of things to fix.
