Default 1973 C3 dash wiring

I am about to try to rewire the dash on my recently purchased 73. It looks like someone did a slice & splice on it. Does anyone have any tips on the process. Should I begin by removing all the old wiring or piece the wiring in. Does the dash pad have to be removed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

To get to most of it you will need to remove the lower dash panels. The drivers side can be tricky. You have to first get the steering column to drop down. Unbolt the support and loosen the plate on the floor and it should slide down far enough. You may want to unhook the rag joint too. There are a lot of bulbs in the speedo/tach but there are clearly marked.
Good luck.

I have just finished this project. I have been at it since
Christmas. I wish I had just bought a new under dash harness
and skipped "Automotive 101".

Label all the existing lines with their respective connection points. Then, compare your existing harness with the schematic for your car. Note any differences. Eliminate any unnecessary wires that were spliced in and do not serve any function. Add back any wiring that was cut out but is still needed. Unless there are very few changes that are required and the harness is in very good condition, a new harness is probably the better way to go.

You will be way ahead to just buy a new one rather than try to re-create it. You do have to take out the left and center dash pads to do the swap.
