i have a problem with my new oil pump and pickup. i am trying to set the height, but in order to copy the old one, the pickup ends up at a funny angle, ie the pickup is not parallel to the pan bottom (or at lleast not parallel to the old pump). if the lowest point is 1/4" away, then it looks as if the high side will be about 1/2" away, maybe more.
is this ok? to be expected with a replacement pump (sealed power - federal mogul) and something to live with?
I'm having the exact same trouble at the moment with mine. I've bought a high pressure/high volume oil pump and the whole thing is about 1/2 inch longer which means the pick-up tube is hitting the baffles in the sump. I'm having to cut away a little. :mad . Like you mention, mine too is at an angle. VettePaul.
Pickups are not "all the same", just like small block water pumps and oil pans are not "all the same". You should be able to order the correct pickup if you have an OEM pan. If not, the pan manufacturer may have the correct pickup.
