Has anyone had any problems with the “Battery Tender Junior”? I have had one for about a year and had no problems. Last night after doing some work on the vette I plugged it back in and left it alone. About three hours later I noticed that the red light was still on steady. The Tender was very hot to the touch. This morning I tried it on one of my other cars and the same thing. The batteries on both the vette and the other car read over 12 volts on the multi-meter.
Is the Tender shot? Oh, and by the way the inline fuse is not blown.

I have one on a motorcycle for over 9 years with no problems. I was going to get another for my car. I think the junior is a little small for a car battery, it only charges at .75 amps. Here is something from the instructions:
TIME REQUIRED TO CHARGE A BATTERY:
The Battery Tender® Junior charges at a rate of 0.75 Amps (0.75 Amp-Hours per hour). The Battery Tender® Plus charges at a rate of 1.25 Amps (1.25 Amp-Hours per hour). Therefore, a fully discharged 15 Amp-Hour battery will take approximately 16 hours or 9.6 hours respectively, to recharge to 80% capacity with a Battery Tender® Junior or a Plus. Some large automotive or marine, deep cycle type batteries may take several days to fully recharge.
I can not find it but I thought that it will show red until it reaches 14.5 volts and then goes into a float charge. With my motorcycle I can drive it all day. When I place it on the Jr. it will instantly turn red. I do not know how long it takes to go green or how hot it gets.
It's just that I don't remember it taking that long to reach green. I hooked it back up and am watching it closely. I just worry about the charger being so hot.

watch it...too much heat is the wrong signal here...some heat is ok.....my friend has had trouble with those tenders....

I can't tell you if I remember mine getting hot. It was one of those things where I just plug it in and walk away. The next week when I go to use it the charger is green.
Since you state that you have used it for about a year, I assume you are using it correctly - that is to KEEP a battery charged rather than charge it up.
I had 2 of them and one is several years old and still works fine. The other lasted only 2 years and just stoppped charging altogether. I don't think either one got really hot - maybe just warm.
I also have a couple of cheap no name tenders purchased off of ebay and they seem to work ok but have only a red light that indicates power but no green light to indicate when they attain a float charge so it's not possible to know the charging situation.
