Default Wheel Help please

I see the topic of group purchase on the tourquer wheels...too bad all the same size...thanks for trying though

What is the widest I can squeeze in my wheel wells on my 81? Looks like you all mostly like the 17 inch...any particular reason?
I have 255 60 15 now...what it came with from the factory.

Wanna get them now...they look great on the pics I have seen some time back.
Thanks :yesnod:

i'm not running the torq thrusts on my '81 but i am running 17s, they're factory wheels from a '93 base coupe. as near as i can figure about the widest you can reasonably fit on an '81 would be 8.5-9" width with about a 275mm tire (if you want to stay in the wheel well). the 9.5s on the back of mine have 285s and just barely stick out. it's so close, i had to put a straight edge across the tire to see how far and it was about a 1/8-1/4" past the well.

I've got 9.5" wheels on all four corners of my car. They are 5" backspace, the least amount Centerline makes in a 9.5" wheel. I used one 3/8 spacer all the way around to clear the calipers in the back and the tie rods in the front. They don't stick out at all.
