I'm going to bond the front clip on and also the inner fenders and will be ordering some 3M 8115. How much do I need to order? I would order a little more than I need but have no idea how many tubes it will take.

I would say four would be plenty. It has been awhile but I know it was no more than 4
Would this be the adhesive of choise for the 1974 also? It has been a long while since I did my 64, and I haven't seen this product ever before. I thought I read some where the 74 was a different compound, thus took a specific adhesive for fenders, clips, etc.?
Will this product be the correct alternative 3M 8115 ?
Thanks

There are quite a few threads on adhesives. I just picked 3M because it's 3M and the 90 minute work time.
These seem to be popular:
3M 8115 3M 8219, SEM , Evercoat 816 , Lord Fusor 21T and Ecklers #27281 (Lord Epoxy)
What I read is the 73 and later are SMC glass so you need to make sure the adhesive you pick is good for SMC.

Rob, I'm the guy that got the hood from you last week. I've done a 73 convertable & a 68 convertable in the last 2 years. I used Fusor 127-EZ. It worked great & you have plenty of time for fitting & clamping etc. The biggest challenge is getting the fender wells where they have to be. Lined up with the radiator support & getting the hood hinges where they need to be. Thats critical. If you go with Fusor you need a special gun . I have one I can lend you if they don't have a loaner.
I chose fusor 100ez heat set. Don't put the heat to it until it's all lined up. The heat sets it in minutes. Of course you'll have already mocked it up previously and know exactly where it goes right. Mines going on this month.
OK, so I ordered 3 tubes of the Fusor 127-EZ and one tube of the Fusor 100-EZ so I can pre-buildup some areas as I work the parts into place. Shooting for the weekend of the 16th and 17th. My inner fenders were in pretty bad shape, so I have a new left side, but have to get all the different brackets etc put in place after I take them off the old one. The right side I will be able to save. Spent last night grinding all the old bonding material off, then wire brushing the years of grime off the inside. I also had to patch in some areas as there were some broken lips. Fortunately I have the donor left side to take pieces from that I needed.

you'll find that a heat gun gets a lot of the previous bonding material off pretty good and clean. It will just scrape off or break away. It doesn't damage the glass either. I know, I've just burnt up my second gun....
I am planning to install a front clip in the near future as well. There seems to be several of us on this thread that are doing this for the first time. Please post any tips or ideas that will make the job easier for the next guy.

THis is good stuff!
We need to post before and after pics after the jobs. I have a complete front clip coming from Michigan. I am for tips and information. Adhesive is of great interest to me choosing the right one the first time (vs. several times) would be nice.
Also, thanks for the heat gun tip, I will be doing a lot of clean up before the bonding process. I wrote that one down in blue
More to come I hope.
I used the 3M8219 one tube was not enough,
I used about 1.5 tubes to bond the front clip back on,
it looked like just the right amount to me after it was setup,
I could see about 1/8" pushed out around the visible bonds.
You can plug and save the left over with the orginal cap,
great adhesive for many different things. 69VETT
Oh yeal... that special 3M Gun .... very $ pricey,
go to a paint distributer and ask for the generic brand gun ! much cheaper !

I just bought a gun that is the equivalent to the 3M gun. It is actualy the same gun without the 3M name on it. I typed in "mixpac" on EBAY and had several to choose from. I got one in great shape for under 70.00 after shipping.
I am planning on using the Lord Fusor 127EZ. I used it when I reattached the firewall to the body. That took about 3/4 of a tube.
It comes out really thin, however, that shouldn't be a problem because every panel should be touching the front clip. However, this area here has about 1/2 thick bead of bonding adhesive on it and you can see that it didn't make contact. Not sure what your's looks like, but I am really going to have to build this area up.
