I am considering going "supercharged". I have plenty of options and have narrowed things down to three. A Whipple twin-screw, a Wieand roots type, and a ProCharger. The ProCharger would allow me to keep everything under the stock hood. Wieand has a low-profile model and would fit under a 4" cowl induction high rise hood. The Whipple would need some modifications to the hood. I don't have a problem with going up through the hood if necessary.
Anyway, they all have their advantages and disadvantages. I would love the Whipple because of constant boost/instant power from idle on up. The other two aren't much for low end power. Regardless, I am curious as to who all have supercharged their C3's. Any pros/cons you have come across...especially regarding a high-rise type supercharger.
Also, if anyone actually has a Whipple, what are the dimensions? I have tried to find actual dimensions and cannot find any.
Although not stock, several of us have dropped LSx motors in and used a Magnacharger roots type blower. Fits with plenty of room with an L88 style hood.
Although in my case I use a tube frame and C4 suspension, the LS motor will drop in and other than finding a spot for the Intercooler, intercooler pump (air to water system) and intercooler tank, dimensionally it's about the same.
I installed a BDS 671 on my 79 and love it, its a major attention getter and scary fast. The only downsides are no driving in rain and keeping it cool. I installed a B-Cool aluminum radiator and electric fans and they seem to do the job unless I drive it really hard for very long. Good luck with whatever you choose, it will be fun!

Whipple will be my next mod after I fix everything I break with the current motor
Zman has a fuel injected whipple on his 406ci made 750 HP or thereabouts if I remember correctly. I think he has a L88 hood too but don't quote me on it

They say that their marine rear entry EFI thing wont work on a street car. The technician at whipple was shocked that people are using them on street cars.

Something about the throttle.
Unless you have a drag-only stup, you need a monster air filter to feed a blown beast, and their rear-fed marine setup only has space for a screen. If you were willing to go around the side like a Cobra setup, then you could have a 4" throttle being fed by a properly-sized filter.
Actually I am procharged with a D1sc and I cleared my high rise hood. I had to notch underneath of the hood for the blower pulley to fit but you can't tell at all when its closed. I took a die grinder to the bottom and cut out a little piece about as thick as the pulley. Oh I also put in solid motor mounts so the engine wouldn't slam it up into the hood under torque I noticed how much movement was there when I was testing with the hood off and energy suspension polyeurathane motor mounts. Another note you have to notch the front corssmember a little bit to get the crank pulley on. Luckily at the time my neighbor was a retired welder and he did this for me before he headed for Florida. A CSU carb from Kevin running E85 now runs supercool with no intercooler at 720 at the crank before I even upgrade pulleys. Smallest pulley on the D1sc is around 12 lbs at 6k. It can be done is pretty cost effective. Relocate the alternator to the other side of the engine. To keep your power steering I believe you have to get a resevoir relocation kit or something. I haven't gotten this far yet. IT CAN BE DONE!!! This is just my 2 cents. Not to highjack your thread but leave money for a cage my 8 point chromoley is getting installed in two weeks.
Pro's very very strong mid range to top end power. This might have something to do with the monster comp cams solid roller blower cam though. I love the surge valve sound Docile enough to cruise around town.
Con's I should have taken the carb in to CSU earlier to save me a large headache. Not much else to speak of for cons, although for me being a novice before I started I went through my share of learning experiences that could have been avoided.

Still working on it, but it's back on the road after a "while I'm in there frame off".
I'm really enjoying the shake down runs around town. All is well. Now it's off to the alignment shop, and then somewhere to charge the hot rod AC system. YES!!
im very interested in this also. im just finishing my 383 build, so it may take a few months. but my next step is a supercharger of some variety. i was thinking a procharger, but i saw on magnusons website where they have a gen1 fuel injected supercharger. pricey, but sounds like a good alternative to the centrifugal. any thoughts?
Blown 383 cu
2 Weber 40dcoe carbs,
crane HIT-284-2 cam
bowtie heads
4-speed Muncie 3.36 rear end
It has a MSD distributor (not in picture) and MSD Ignition. It has the MSD Boost Retard control. Up to about 9 pounds on the boost. Might bump up to the 10 ribbed pulley as I have small pulley slip.
The over the top intake are rare but out there. You can find them on ebay on occasion.
I saw a Magnuson supercharger on a newer vette 2002 last week when a few guys met from the Forum at a local spot. Everything looked stock as he pulled in, hood tires, etc. The only thing I could tell was the slight high pitch whine...pretty cool and he's about 585hp at the rear wheels. He has the larger model and it stilll looked pretty compact, my thoughts were "so how can I fit that in....Alot of the guys here use ECS to do the work...
