Melted Spark Plug Wire Boot.
When I took my exhaust manifolds off my 81 I noticed the spark plug wire boot on the number 6 cylinder was pretty much missing, there are two heat shields on my car, one for cylinders 2 and 4 and another for cylinders 5 and 7 are there supposed to be heat shields for all the wires? If not, how do I keep the new wire from melting?

I got ceramic plug wires from Jacobs electronics, guaranteed for life. I went through two sets of Moroso Spiral Core before I made the switch. They ain't cheap, but frequent purchases of Moroso's isn't either!

Yes, there should be a total of 4 shields. One for each pair of cylinders. I used MSD boots after burning off 2 other brands on my large tube headers. They are avaiable seperately from Jeg's.

I had the same problem with 2 cylinders. Replaced the boots almost weekly until I bought 2 Jacob wires with ceramic boots. They cost me $40 each but the service was quick, they have a life time warranty, and best of all they never burn. Have had them for 2 years without problems.
