I am currently replacing the weatherstripping on my T-Tops and need to know if I should apply some adhesive to the side of the weatherstrip that contain the attaching pins? Thanks Tim
I just replaced my all weather stripping and here's a tip. After making a bit of a mess with the black adhesive on the first T-Top I used masking tape to mask off areas I wanted to keep clean on the second. Worked like a charm.
Why? I didn't use alcohol when I replaced mine. What does it do and will there be problems with mine since I didn't use it?
I also replaced all my W/S, including the T-Tops, about a year and a half ago. I noticed, on pulling on the W/S, the grip of the adhesive seemed a bit weak. No absolute data, but some posters have posted that Some if not all W/S is treated with a mold inhibitor, that can be greasy. Alcohol apparently will remove it, so now i suggest people clean the W/S contact area first, to be on the safe side. I haven't had any problems, but think it's a good idea.
Replaced all my weatherstrips which I bought from Wilcox--used the "yellow" adhesive--which was originally used by GM when cars were built. Talked to several corvette restorers and they said do not use the black--it does not hold--use the yellow adhesive.
