Default Getting closer to solving my electrical problem...

Turns signal short is fixed, I guess. I'm not sure what actually did the trick, as I did a LOT of things...

But the back up/brakes lights still burn the fuse out. It's funny...according to the fuse box, the backup lights are on the same fuse as the turn signal...while the break lights are on a seperate fuse...even though they use the exact same light. And once the break light fuse blows, the back up lights don't work either. Perhaps another bubba fiasco?

What are some common things that cause issues with brake lights? I took apart the little switch for the brake lights, and it s was clean, no rust or other corrosion. I also tracked the wires from the actual bulbs back as far as I could...I lose them for about 2 feet when they go on the inside of the driver side rear trailing arm. I can get back ahold of them again when they come through the e brake console. They are neatly wrapped, and they APPEAR to be in pretty good conition....and ideas, guys?

I realy can't drive this car till I feel good about those brakes lights...

get a meter start at the power source and follow the circuit,
verifiy each componet as you go the the circuit (fuse, switch, connectors)
swapping a parts and guessing will only cost you money and time.

The power for the back up lights comes thru the turn signal fuse, then goes to the turn signal flasher power, as a big pink wire, on that same connection a small pink wire goes back into the harness, for a 4 speed car and goes down to the reverse switch,
from there it goes back thru the harness out to the reverse lights.

The turn signal and brake lights are the same ---the turn signal is a flashing brake light.

The wire coming from the brake light switch goes up the column to the turn signal switch and then goes to the rear light via the turn signal wire.

The stop light fuse blowing and taking out the backup lights is a red flag.

You said you had turn signal issues that all of a sudden fixed themselves. Because everything is tied together including the hazards in the turn signal switch I would be looking there. JMO

also note even tho it is the same bulb, they use different filaments,(dual filament Bulb)
and can be powered from different sources, they do both use the same common gnd.
"the bulb shell."

sounds like you have some bubba wiring somewhere, Inspect your rear light wiring very well,
if it's not orginal looking wiring, then Bubba has been there.

you can also have a bad bulb, that shorts the filament together giving weird results.
A 9 volt lantern battery makes a great bulb tester ! 69VETT

I replaced the bulbs, that was first on the list.

As for following the wires....that is kinda my problem. I can't GET to the suckers, once they go behind that trailing arm, at least, not till the resurface back in the e brake console...

I am to the point right now, where I kinda just want to go to autozone, by some wire, and rout the darn thing myself, lol. Doesn't seem like it would be too hard...
