I'm posting in this section of the Corvette forum because there seems to be more zz4 owners here.
I've got a zz3 that I've poked an lt4 hot cam and 1.6 rollers into. In the past I've used the gm 10105117 headgasket for a little extra squeeze. They are .028" compressed as opposed to the standard gasket at .051".
I'm wondering if anyone knows if I will have valve/piston clearance issues here. I will do a clay check while the heads are off for degreeing the cam but would rather not have the wrong gaskets when it's time to button it up.
I'd clay it with no gasket at all then overnight the right gasket from Summit or something. The thinnest gasket I went with on the ZZ3 was a .032" and I had no problems with the stock cam and 1.6 rockers. IIRC I checked with no gasket and the exhaust was closest but still had a solid .112" clearance. When claying for clearance I like to turn the motor over each direction like 4 revs, to ensure the piston rocks both ways and squishes the clay as much as possible, with WD40 on the clay surface to prevent sticking and false expansion when the pieces pull apart.
The hot cam with 1.6 should have around .557" lift, right?
