Default headers and mufflers, yes I know....

Well time to loose the Chambered Exhaust (just a thought, if anyone is interested in buying my set-up shoot me a PM)(short headers to chambered)SS
Any way even after checking out old posts, still a bit confused on good replacement muffler. Looking for good muscle sound that won't be irritating on Hwy. Planing on going with full length coated headers as well looking at these.

Any suggestions on both would be appreciated.

Was also thing of using elec. cutouts for fun. (to help with Chamber withdraw) Are they cool, yea or nea?

Thanks

I just installed 2.5 inch pipes with magnaflow mufflers on my BB 1969. Sounds real nice, low rumble at idle. It opens up nice when you get on it. But the nice thing is you can hear yourself think when driving. I bought them from corvette central (corvettecentral.com)

I went with 2.5" pipes with Borla. Sounds great.

Chambered is cool. Have had it for a while and was just too loud on hwy, plus the wife dreads the ride but try's to hide it. I love it and hate it. Plus was thinking I could have some fun sounds with the cut-outs. and still have muffler sound.

What's the part number for the Borlas. And do they have muscle sound or more European sound?

Thanks.

I'm surprised you don't like the chamber exhaust. I would guess that if the problem is noise inside the car it's the headers not the chamber exhaust. Going to long tube headers will make more HP along with more noise and heat in the passenger compartment.

Go with a 5sd O/D trans. Cut your highway RPM to 2000 or less. Save gas, ware and really drops the noises level.

Check out www.magnaflow.com They have some new systems that are different from the ones Corvette Central sells.

Just had the 4-speed rebuild, so a 5 speed will have to be longer down the road. I know that would be the best add on.
Thanks for the link.

Pypes just came out with a X-member back stainless system for the C3 - I ordered it from Jegs last week.

It was reasonable at $460 and comes with the X pipe, mufflers, and all hardware. You just have to connect to the headers - I am gonna run full tube Hooker's with it.

You have 3 muffler choices as well - I will follow up when I get it.

Good Luck, Ed

I got the BOR-40941 (XR-1, Center 2 1/2 in. Inlet, Center 2 1/2 in. Outlet, Brushed Stainless Steel) from Summit. They sound more muscle than the European, but it all depends on the engine and the tips (I tried several different tips before I found one I liked). I've heard the same mufflers on other car/engine setups and they sound completely different.

I run Dynomax Super Turbos with 2 1/2" exhaust, Headers and a crosspipe. I really like the sound, it's just loud enough to sound nice and mellow without that irritating blat-t-t-t-t-t and it doesn't resonate in the cab on the highway.
