Default Temp sending unit

Gauge was not reading so first looked at the temp unit and notice the plastic connector on the wire is broken and the prong on the unit was bent.
Went online and saw a vendor selling a reproduction $30. It said with this unit there is no need to recalibrate the original gauge. Further reading and it appears different brands show different ohms at varying temperatures. This is some old info but interesting read.

Does it really matter?

ps. the vendor did state buying this unit will "add value to your Corvette"

Yes it matters. There were different gauges used over the years that needed different resistance sensors. There is no universal sensor that will work will all gauges. There are several vendors that sell the correct unit.

Here is a fairly simple way to see if your gauge is in the ballpark.

I went through two senders after my build before locating one that was very close. I believe it was a Wells Product.
