Where can I get a vacuum hose kit. Can I just buy a couple feet of vacuum hose at a local parts store? Is there a cetain size for vacuum hoses for a 74 Corvette?
Your vacuum hoses are different sizes depending on what they are used for. They are color coded to help you tell which does what. Dr Rebuild has complete kits, and diagrams of where all of the hoses go.
Yes there are different size hoses for the system. The kits are about 45 or 50 bucks for your year car. It should come with the correct size hoses and plastic T fittings.
If you have some reason to replace all of the hoses [or just want it to be 'purty'], buy the kit from Dr. Rebuild or other Corvette parts outlet. If you just want to fix a short run, just buy take that piece in to the auto parts store (NAPA, etc.) and have them match it for size and length.
Thanks. Well I especially need the vacuum advance one (distributor to carb) since my mechanic cut and blocked it! Also possibly the brake booster one...

The hoses are 5/32 7/32 9/32, sometimes if you cut 1/2" from the end of the hose and reconnect it might work better. Here's a troubleshooting guide, the text is good but the diagram is wrong so use the one Gordonm posted at Zip. www.corvette-101.com/vacuum.htm
PG.
If your mechanic cut it, have him buy the replacement. There's no reason to cut one, unless the guy is a "hack".... Also, that particular line does not have any special marking, so you could just replace it with the correct size of available tubing.

Well he cut the hose and plugged it! He set the timing without vacuum advance. But I will be resetting my timing tonight and want to set it with the vacuum advance as it should be....What do you think? Is it ok to have no vacuum advance?
I would think that any decent auto parts store would carry vacuum line. If not (in your local area) go to a hardware or aquarium supply store and pick up 2-3 feet of clear vinyl/plastic tubing that will fit. That will function until your hose kit order shows up at your doorstep. Oh...all your mechanic had to do was to remove the line from the distributor can and plug that end of the hose. It was idiotic to cut a perfectly good vacuum line just because he was too lazy to do it properly.
