I had my car out last night for the first time (this year). The low beam lights were weak, I couldn't see very well. The high beams worked fine. I installed a new wiring harness last year. I had it out last fall and they worked fine. Any help will be appreciated.
If you are running sealed beam units, junk them. If they are sealed halogens, see comments above about running a relay for the headlights. If neither, buy a set of euro lead crystal lens halogens and choose your wattage. you will need to run a relay at least to the high beams due to amperage restriction from the headlight switch. I run Hella lenses with 55/60 watt lows and 100 watt highs on a relay. Better yet, do what I have done on my Chrysler 300 low beams with 5000 K HID conversion system. Buy the hella low beam lenses and an HID conversion for the low beam side. You don't necessarily need a separate system on the high beams, just run hella halogens. The HID's are spectacular! Many options, you choose!
Yes both sides. Is there a separate ground for the low beam and high beam?
They use separate wires that are tied together and come to a common ground but if the ground at the low dual beam isnt making a good ground the low beam will not light but the high beam can.
Since both low beams are out and the high beams work I doubt that the grounds are your problem but it never hurts to clean the grounds. Its not unheard of for both low beams to be burnt out.
Did you happen to notice when the high beams are on are the high beam filaments in the low dual beam on ? In other words are all 4 beams on when on high ? If so its not the grounds AT the light connections.
Your probably going to have to get a test light and probe the tan wire at the low beams and see if the tan is hot,if its not check the connection at the dimmer switch.
