re 72 egg crate painting

re 72 egg crate painting
My side fender egg crates are still chrome and pitted a little bit. I'm going to paint them with the car. Whats the best way to do this? I have bead blasted them to rough up the chrome a little bit. Would you just prime with epoxy primer or regular primer?

Hi Rob,
On my 71 I used epoxy primer and then paint.
I used a razor blade to slice the paint off the raised, chromed surfaces. Some people have had good luck taping the chromed surface, but I had too much paint build up at the edge to get a nice clean line, so I re-did the grills using the blade.

Thanks Al. Did you mask off the little raised trim on your wiper door ?
