Default Fan Clutch Question......

I can turn my radiator fan by hand whether it's cold or at operating temp...but when I turn the engine off (whether it reaches operating temps or not) the fan stops with the engine....it doesn't freely spin 1-2 more times. The engine doesn't get over 200* (whether in traffic or interstate driving)...so my question is: What is the fan clutch telling me....Is it going to fail? Should I get another one? Questions, Questions, Questions! I just don't want to be stranded. If I need to get one, recomendations? I know GM is always "best" but at $139 or $100 is it worth it? Can I get the same (or better) service from an aftermarket brand from JEGS or Summit Racing for about 1/3 the price?

I purchased a clutch fan from Summit two years ago and it is still doing fine. And, I liked the price!

I think your fan clutch is telling you it is working just fine.

BTW...is it a thermo or a centrifical clutch?

Then why doesn't it spin a couple of times when the engine is turned off?

You pic looks to be a thermo. Spinning a couple of times is normal. If the fan clutch was not working properly then your engine would definitely over heat. Mine went out last year all of a sudden and it didn't take long for the engine to over heat.

I agree, but mine DOES NOT spin after you turn off the engine.

Sounds like your fan clutch is working just like it's supposed to.
