Default Carburator problems!!!

Hey guys i seem to be having a problem with my carburator. I have a 79 corvette small block(i don't know what type of carburator it is). The problem is that when i accelerate, the car seems to hold back a lot. I can hear the engine getting louder(rpms are not going up), but the car won't accelerate any faster. this is not a normal thing. one day i was driving it fine, and the next, i had this problem. when i looked at the carburator, i noticed that the big white flaps on the carburator(idk the name) were not opening when i accelerated. There might be a problem with the opening mechanism. I need to know how to fix this problem. any help would be appreciated.

The flaps on top and to the rear of the carb are air valves and will not open with the car in neutral sitting still. If you blip the throttle open real fast you might see them open a bit.

Could this be an ignition problem? Bad rotor and cap and possible damaged HEI module? Does it seem OK when engine is cold but gets worse when hot?

Possible plugged exhaust. Use a vacuum gauge and rev it up slowly in neutral. If the the manifold vacuum falls off (less) as the revs climb, thats it. Probably the converter.
