Default Windshield molding replacement - need to remove windshield??

If anyone has gone through this recently, I would appreciate any comments - is it possible to replace windshield corner chrome moldings without removing the windshield?? My original ones are quite ugly. Just in case, I'm talking about these parts:

I have NEVER heard of anyone successfully replacing the corner molding without removing or breaking the windshield. Sorry!

Do yourself a favor and remove the windshield. I tried taking them off without removing the windshield on my 78 and ended up breaking the glass.

There are 2 screws that hold the corners to the windshield frame. These are what threw a monkey-wrench into my project.

Save yourself the headache if you haven't already started this project.

Hope this helps and good luck.

it can be done, but it's a job. you'll have to use a dremmel to cut the heads off the two mentioned screws and then lift the end piece. then when you reinstall the pieces, the trick is to make short studs out of screws to replace the screws. then there's just enough room to get a small end wrench on a nut to tighten the studs holding the end piece. the problem is that a normal screw can't be started or tightened because of the edge of the glass. any pressure on the edge will crack it.
not that i ever did this, but i knew a guy that knew a guy that heard a story about some dumb guy in florida that set his windshield before he set the end pieces.
