I have a 79, and there is not a stock mustang, vett (less the ZR1 maybe) or much of anything else that can touch her.
kill list includes, C6 zo6, Roush 427 mustang, Bmw Z8, Lotus, several Ferraris, and the list goes on....
Build it and they will come..
And if you really do it right then crotch rockets are the only thing left to stomp on
I had a near stock L48 in mine when I first got it. Couldn't pull away from a '93 Cavalier. I still have nightmares of the stupid smile of the driver in my rear view mirror closing in on me, that motor didn't last long

My 74 L48 is the weakest runt of my fleet.I wouldn't put it against the wife's 06 V6 'stang, the 92 Cummins Dodge or the Ford 5.4 E350 extended work van with ladders on the roof in a drag race!It may have a chance against the 4.0 Grand Cherokee, only on dry pavement though!
I've read your posts in this thread and have a serious question....are you still in high school?
On a side note, in 2007 we got my wife a brand new HHR w/the 180 HP 4cyl engine.....it's pretty quick for that type of car. It's amazing how far technology has come in 20-30 years.

Well.....so far.....my kill list includes a Scion TC, an RX8, and an older honda civic si.
The RX8 woulda had me on a longer track, too. EASILY. He was pulling HARD for the last little bit.
Mustang? Not if it's new, man. Not even a 6 banger. Camaro? Forget it.
Some of those have an LS1 and T56. You're gonna have to drop a lot of beans to match that.
HANDLING, though?
Why, you can match them with about.....3-4 grand. Better wheels/tires, better suspension....and you will come out of turns as fast or faster than camaros are stangs, for the most part. Unless it's the brand new camaro (independent suspension)
I agree with most of the posters amy 77 when in stock trim wouldn't beat many of the newer performance cars but a 77 Vette will probably beat a 77 Mustang and if you replaced the exhaust with duals, it will wake it up a bit. Putting it against newer cars when all are stock, it's comparing apples to oranges. These newer cars will blow the doors off of even 60's muscle cars.
That is one very intersting site. It just goes to show those old cars weren't really as fast as we remembered them. It brings it home to see a 1980 L-82 beat a 68 327. Remove the restrictions the factory placed on these 70's cars and it's a whole new game.
